Deposits

A deposit with the Treasury called the "deposit with 48 hours' notice", is a deposit with indefinite maturity.

The depositor has the right to terminate the deposit on condition of 48 hours' notice (two business days).

Amount:

  • The amount of the initial deposit must be a minimum of 500,000 EUR.
  • The amounts added to or withdrawn from the deposit must be a minimum of 250,000 EUR.
  • At any moment, the deposit must have a balance equal to or higher than 500,000 EUR.

Rate:

  • The rate is set with reference to the minimal or fixed rate of the main weekly refinancing transactions of the Eurosystem.
  • Moreover, the rate can be revised upwards or downwards by the Treasury any time the evolution of the market justifies it.  In this case, the client will be informed 48 hours before the change.
  • Additional deposits are compensated at the prevailing rate at the time of their deposit on the account.

Deposits made with the Treasury with 48 hours' notice are essentially intended for Public Interest Organisations (PIO).

Initial deposit:

  • The amount of the initial deposit must be a minimum of 500,000 EUR.
  • Deposits must be made to the account IBAN BE60 1000 0400 0070 (BIC code NBBEBEBBTRE) in the name of the Treasury with the National Bank of Belgium.

Addition or withdrawal of funds:

  • Funds can be added to or withdrawn from the initial deposit at any moment, by making a telephone request before noon on the day of the value date. This communication by telephone must immediately be followed by the sending of a confirmation fax addressed to the Back Office (Tel. +32(2)230 33 35 or +32(2)579 58 43), signed by an authorised person.
  • The amounts added to or withdrawn from the deposit must be a minimum of 250,000 EUR.
  • At any moment, the deposit must have a balance equal to or higher than 500,000 EUR.

Termination of the deposit:

  • The depositor has the right to terminate the deposit on condition of 48 hours' notice (two business days). This notice period may be served at any time to the extent that the elapsed initial period is at least one week.
  • The Treasury can terminate the deposit if its balance falls below 500,000 EUR.

Interest is paid every year, on the final TARGET business day of the year, or on termination of the deposit.
